CHE 2-1 WIM Three Chelsea Players Who Didn't Perform Well Despite Their Win Over Wimbledon

Nigerianewslite

Sports

Chelsea had to come from behind to beat League Two side AFC Wimbledon and advance to the third round of the Carabao Cup. Mauricio Pochettino made numerous changes to the side that beat Luton Town last Friday, but the Blues looked disjointed from the off and the Dons sought to pounce on that vulnerability. Nevertheless, Chelsea managed to rally and take advantage of some sloppy defending to book their place in the draw for round three.

Here are the three Chelsea players who didn't perform well despite their win over Wimbledon

Ian Maatsen

The defender turned attacker wasn’t dangerous enough as a no10 which is no doubt why Chelsea have just agreed a £45million deal for Manchester City’s Cole Palmer.

Diego Moreira

Arguably had no positive actions, struggled early on and appeared to lose his head. Taken off at half-time.

Conor Gallagher

At times made things look very easy against the League Two opposition but couldn't quite find the right pocket of space to make a big difference. One of the Blues more threatening players nevertheless.

Eternity Network International founder and senior pastor Apostle Joshua Selman preached a message titled "Engaging The Light." At the 2023 Word and Prayer Conference, During his speech, he predicted a change in leadership and touched on other key elements of the shadow world.

The existence of darkness, according to Apostle Joshua Selman, is always indicative of the presence of evil. When it's dark outside, it's harder to see, takes longer to move around, and makes it harder to tell who you really are.

His interpretation of the prophecy was, "Where there is darkness, there must be a change of power." You will no longer have any moral sway in society. Therefore, I declare a new government under the Name that is Greater than Any Other Name. power over one's possessions and one's environment; the capacity to command the respect of one's peers.

Niger: N13bn lost weekly due to border closure – Northern traders beg Tinubu to open border

 Nigerianewslite

Northern traders have lamented the loss of about N13bn weekly due to the closure of borders in the region over the ongoing crisis in Niger Republic.

News Direct reports that President Bola Tinubu  had on August 4 ordered the closure of all borders with Niger Republic which the Nigerian Customs have now enforced. The borders include Jibiya in Katsina state, Illelah in Sokoto and Maigatari in Jigawa.

Addressing a press conference on the matter in Abuja, the chairman, Arewa Economic Forum Ibrahim Yahaya Dandakata, said the economic consequences of the closure is becoming unbearable for traders, while urging the federal government to open the maje-illo border in Kebbi to allow traders bring in goods to the country.

“Since the order by the President to close all the borders with Niger Republic following the announcement of the coup, the consequences have been huge. Northern traders loss N13bn weekly.

“Trade between Niger and Nigeria is usually informal especially in perishable goods and only last year alone, it is estimated at about N177bn in goods and services like livestock and food items.

“Therefore, further closure of the border will be detrimental to the huge trade going on between these two countries.

“We hereby appeal to President Tinubu to open the maje-illo border in Kebbi state to enable traders bring in their goods into the country and empower customs to collect import duty thereafter,” he explained.

Also speaking, a trader and member of the forum, Hamza Saleh Jibiya, said since the closure of the border, about 2,000 containers laden with perishable and non-perishable goods have been trapped and cannot be cleared due to the closure

“The average value of a container is between $20,000 to $70,000 which in our estimation will be about N140bn trapped in those containers.

“The alternative which we appeal now is for the federal government to open the maje-illo border in Kebbi to enable us remain in business,” he added.

I Am Too Big To Have A Godfather, President Tinubu Was Begging Me To Be Minister - El-Rufai

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai and President Bola Tinubu

The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has said in a viral video that he is too big for someone to be his godfather.

In the video seen by Naija News on the internet, El-Rufai said he had told President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on several occasions that he didn’t want to work with him.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said the incumbent President had been the one pressuring him to work with his administration but that he has repeatedly rejected the offer.

Naija News understands that El-Rufai said this while granting a brief interview to journalists recently.

“I met with Bola Ahmed Tinubu over ten times and told him that I do not want any government job. I do not want to work with him. He is the one pressuring me to work with him.

“I have been the one rejecting the offer to work with him. Wallahi tallahi billahi, I am too big for someone to be my godfather,” El-Rufai said in the Hausa language.

Recall that El-Rufai was one of the former governors Tinubu listed in his ministerial nominee list forwarded to the Senate weeks ago for screening.

However, El-Rufai was not confirmed by the Senate over alleged security reasons.

Earlier, a presidency source who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES revealed that El-Rufai was no longer interested in becoming a minister due to his current doctorate programme but would continue to contribute his quota to the development of Nigeria as a private citizen.

The sources said, “He also told the president that he needed time to focus on his doctorate programme at a university in The Netherlands.”

The former governor is studying for a doctorate in public policy at the United Nations University, Maastricht.

Another insider also told the publication that El-Rufai suggested a new ministerial nominee, Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, for Kaduna State, saying the President would find him helpful and resourceful.

Also, during the meeting, President Tinubu also told the former governor he received petitions critical to his ministerial nomination.

The President, however, demanded 24 hours of grace to review the petitions and the SSS report to the Senate to enable him to reach a decision.

At that point, El-Rufai responded that he was no longer interested in being a minister since it appeared some forces around the President were scheming intensely to block his emergence as federal minister.

Recall that El-Rufai disclosed during his confirmation hearing on 1 August that Tinubu asked him to work with him on the country’s power problem.

According to him, the President had given a target of seven years for Nigeria to stop experiencing power outages in the country.

The former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly withdrawn his interest in President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial appointment.

Naija News learnt that El-Rufai lost interest in serving in President Tinubu’s cabinet after a meeting at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday.

Recall that El-Rufai visited the President a day after the Senate confirmed 45 ministerial nominees after a week-long screening and confirmation.

The upper legislative chamber, however, withheld his confirmation and those of two others, citing security reports from the State Security Service for the action.

The two others were a former senator from Taraba, Sani Danladi, and a nominee from Delta State, Stella Okotete.

Coup: Tinubu meets governors sharing boundary with Niger

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday met with governors of States that share boundaries with Niger Republic.

The meeting which was held at the State House, Abuja, was part of consultations by the President on the situation in Niger.

Among governors in attendance were Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Mai Malam Buni (Yobe), Idris Nasir (Kebbi) and Dr Dikko Radda (Katsina).

Recall that President Tinubu in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) had handed down a seven-day ultimatum to the military junta in Niger Republic to return power back to Mohammed Bazoum.

Beyond the ultimatum, Tinubu in a meeting which held in Abuja last weekend also announced a number of sanctions which have seen borders linking Niger blocked, while power and flight activities have been halted indefinitely.

Tinubu had written the leadership of the National Assembly to approve the deployment of military personnel to the troubled Niger but rather got advice to tread carefully in the present circumstances.

Niger C.oup: Customs CG warns against compromise in Benin, Cameroon borders

Niger Coup: Customs CG warns against compromise in Benin, Cameroon borders

The Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, has warned against any compromise in Benin Republic, Cameroon and other borders following the closure of entries into Niger Republic.

As a result of the military coup in Niger, Adeniyi also directed that any transit goods through the Customs territory should be stopped if they are headed to the Niger Republic.

Nigeria had shut its land borders with Niger Republic as part of measures against the military junta in the West African country.

Adeniyi noted that criminals, in an attempt to break or smuggle arms into Niger Republic, may explore other land borders like that of Benin Republic and Cameroon.

He said this on Sunday while addressing officers and men of the NCS during his working visit to the headquarters of the Ogun 1 Area Command of the NCS at Idiroko, Ogun State.

He said implementation of the Nigeria-Niger border closure “is 100 percent” in the northern frontiers.

He called on customs and other security operatives manning the borders to be alert and vigilant to wage war against any attempt to jeopardise national security.

Adeniyi said, “We are all aware of the situation in our northern neighbour, Republic of Niger. In response to the national presidential directive from our President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, President Bola Tinubu, as our president and as the Chairman of the ECOWAS authorities of heads of states, we are monitoring the situation in Niger closely; and one of the decisions taken in the wisdom of the heads of state is the closure of our borders with Niger.

“Over the last week, I paid a working visit to some of those borders, and I can assure you that the implementation of that measure there is 100%. And when that happens, people, who want to smuggle things into that country may want to explore openings in other borders. This is why it is important for you to be very, very vigilant.

“Anywhere we have borders, there could be compromise and there could be attempts to use routes that are not necessarily normal for them to cross things into Niger. All transit goods going into Niger for now are to be stopped anywhere you see them. Any transit goods through the Nigeria customs territory should be stopped if they are headed to Niger Republic.

“And this is also a time for us to remain very, very vigilant. Because the enemies of the state are still at work. Those who are bent in destabilising the country, they are still at work.

“You recall the incidents of about two weeks ago, when some elements smuggled ammunition across, using some of the plans we have here. So this is therefore a reminder that you cannot afford to relax at any point in time. Your level of vigilance and the level of alertness must be 100%. You must be ready all the time. You must cultivate very, very credible and useful intelligence from amongst the community that you live. And you must learn to synergize and cooperate with other agencies who are working together with you to enhance national security.”

Adeniyi who also met with heads of other security agencies and security chiefs from Benin Republic, called for a collaboration to fight against criminals in both countries.

He said while President Bola Tinubu and his Benin Republic counterpart, Patrice Talon, are forming bilateral agreements on economic and security, security chiefs from both countries should also form a synergy towards implementation of the policies.

“As agencies, we should show readiness to work together and fight criminals in both countries,” he said.

President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, prayed the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting in Abuja to consider the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as 37th state of the federation for the February 25 presidential election.

President Bola Tinubu, yesterday, prayed the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) sitting in Abuja to consider the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as 37th state of the federation for the February 25 presidential election.

Adopting his final written address, Tinubu, through his lead counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, submitted that FCT is the 37th state.

Referring to Section 134(2) b, which provides that a candidate contesting the post of president must score not less than one-quarter of votes in, at least, two-thirds of all states in the federation and FCT, he said Tinubu won one-third of two-third of votes in the FCT, qualifying him to be declared president.

The senior lawyer also submitted that there is a difference between transfer and transmit, noting that the I-Rev portal used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) played no role in collation of election results.

According to Olanipekun, all documents presented by Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, were merely dumped on the court, and it would be unfair to consider them.

Counsel to the petitioner, Chris Uche, however, insisted that securing 25 per cent of votes cast in the FCT is mandatory.

He said the technical glitch claimed by INEC was deliberate, to give room for manipulation of results in favour of Tinubu. According to him, the burden is on the electoral body to show why there was a technical glitch in a technology that cost Nigeria N355 billion.

PEPC reserved judgment till a date that would be communicated to the parties.

Also, award-winning author, Chimamanda Adichie, joined the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, at the court, yesterday.

Obi and Baba-Ahmed are challenging the victory of President Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 poll as declared by INEC.

The parties filed and exchanged their final written addresses, with the last being Tinubu’s reply on July 24 to the final written address by Atiku and the PDP.
