 It is a kind reminder to all those who applied to the University of Benin(UNIBEN) during their UTME registration 2022.

The University of Benin’s administration has set dates for its Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry screenings for the 2022/2023 academic year.

According to a notification issued by the university’s Registrar, Mr Ademola Bobola, on Wednesday in Benin, the exercise will take place between November 14 and November 25. 

Mr. Ademola Bobola also added that the exercise will be conducted at strategic centers on the institution’s main campus in Ugbowo, utilizing the Computer-Based Test (CBT) format.

He said;

“Only candidates, who applied through JAMB for the 2022/2023 UTME and direct entry admission and chose University of Benin as first choice and scored 200 and above for UTME candidates, are eligible for this screening exercise,”

Mr. Ademola Bobola, on the other hand, directed admissions applicants to the institution’s official website http://www.uniben.edu, for further information

The former Vice President declared that he would give development initiatives in the Southeast and other areas of the nation top priority.

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president and PDP presidential contender, claims that he is the platform that the Igbo people of Southeast Nigeria may use to elect one of themselves to the presidency.

He claimed that this relationship influenced his selection of Senator Ben Obi and Peter Obi as his running mates in previous campaigns for president.

He continued by saying that he has once again selected an Igbo (Ifeanyi Okowa) to serve as his running partner.

GOVERNOR SOLUDO INAUGURATES HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

Governor Chukwuma Soludo has commissioned the Human Capital Development Council.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim serves as Chairman of the Council, while  Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu will Deputize him.

Other members of the Council include, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Chiamaka Nnake who is also the focal person, Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike and Commissioner for Information, Sir Paul Nwosu.

Others are Director General, Strategy, Execution and Evaluation (SEE), Mr Emma Onyilofor; Managing Director, Anambra State Information Communication Technology Agency (ICT), Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata as well as Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Empowerment Programme, Dr. Nelson Omenugha.

The appointment of members of the Council follows the launching of the National Human Capital Development Programme in 2018, on the premise that the key measure of success of any government includes its stock of human resources denoted by human capital indices.

The programme focuses on three thematic areas including, Health and Nutrition, Education and Labour Force Participation.

Inaugurating the Council, Governor Soludo described human capital as the greatest resource replete in Anambra state, noting that the Council will become the baseline in terms of human capital development.

"We must mine our human capital resource the best possible way we can. Anambra should be ahead in all ramifications, in terms of data collection, designing strategies and plans, monitoring the execution, and others", said the Governor.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Ifeatu Onejeme, among others, were present at the event.

 Approximately 23 kilometres from Bida and 60 kilometres from Minna, the deteriorating bridge on the Bida-Minna Road has finally collapsed at Sagamio Farms, cutting off the two largest towns in Niger State.

It was discovered that the state’s recent five days of heavy rain were to blame for the bridge’s collapse.

It was learned that the water flowing under the bridge is one of the tributaries of River Niger that has overflowed its banks as a result of the rains

“The bridge collapsed totally on Sunday. Consequently, commuters plying the Minna-Bida Road are stranded as you can see,” a villager, Ismaila Abubakar said.

A commuter stranded on the road, Mohammed Aliyu told LEADERSHIP that “Most vehicles coming from the Ilorin-Mokwa-Jebba axis and Minna, unaware of the development, are now trapped at the spot. We have been here the whole day.

Attempt to get Ministry of Works to speak on the development proved abortive, but a source said they are determined to find immediate solution.

It would be recalled that the contract for the road was earlier awarded by the state government for reconstruction but was listed among the roads to be reconstructed by the federal government through the NNPC Road infrastructures intervention scheme, however work on the road has stopped.

The 2023 Presidential Election Is Not For Igbo President But For Nigerian President - IMO Governor

He stated this during a recent interview on Channels Television's Politics Today.

Uzodinma made the statement while answering questions on what he thinks about the 2023 election, and if he thinks that the presidential candidate of his party, Bola Tinubu, will win the forthcoming election.

 The Imo State Governor said that he has done well as a governor, and that his achievements will win supporters for his party in Imo state during the elections.

He said - "The presidential election is an election for Nigerian President, not for Igbo President."

In recent times, discussions on Igbo Presidency have been gaining momentum on social media, and some stakeholders and interest groups believe that Igbos should be given a chance to produce the next President in the interest of fairness and equity. Even though none of the two major political parties in the country - APC and PDP - fielded an Igbo candidate for the 2023 election, the emergence of Peter Obi as the flag bearer of the Labour Party seemed like a burst of hope for those who have been pushing for Igbo presidency.

Naria Falls Heavily Against Us Dollar, As report Rank It 11th Worst In The World

 Nigeria’s currency, Naira, continued its depreciation against the US dollar, and it is now officially at its lowest level on the official market.

Data from FMDQ securities shows that Nigeria’s currency, Naira, fell to its lowest in 2022 on Tuesday, September 6, to close the day’s trading at N436 per dollar at the Investors and Exporters (I&E) market, the country’s official foreign exchange market window.

This is a second straight day of record-breaking depreciation after closing at an 8-month low on Monday at N434.7 per dollar. 

Naira depreciation has been attributed to the dollar shortage as Nigeria continues to struggle to diversify and improve foreign exchange inflows.

Tuesday rate means Naira has depreciated by 3.21 per cent when compared to N422 quoted on the first trading day this year.

At the parallel market, popularly called the black market, Naira also depreciated heavily as currency traders sold to buyers at N710 per dollar on Tuesday.

The local currency has depreciated by 20.42 per cent at the black market from N565/$ at the beginning of the year.

Meanwhile, a new report has ranked Naira as one of the worst performing currencies in the world against the US dollar.

According to the latest ranking by Hanke’s Currency Watchlist, Naira is the 11th worst-performing currency in the world.

The rating, which was as of September 2, 2022, also put the Venezuelan Boliver in the number one spot as the worst-performing currency globally, while the Zimbabwean RTGS Dollar is number two

 The Lebanese Pound, the Sudanese Pound and the Syrian Pound occupy the third, fourth and fifth spots, respectively.

West African neighbour currency, Ghana Cedi, is in the 13th position, while the currency of war-torn Ukraine, Hryvnia, ranks 14th among the list of 19 currencies.

NNPC Reveals How Much Petrol Will Cost When Subsidy Is Removed Next Year

The NNPC has said that petrol could cost as much as N462 per litre when the subsidy is removed in 2023

The company said it pays about N297 per litre to subsidise petrol in the country and stated that the price would increase significantly in 2023

It said that the total landing cost for petrol is about $1.283 per litre for the second quarter of 2022

According to the NNPC, the average daily importation of fuel between January and August 2022 was 68 million litres which it pays N297 per litre to subsidise.

A statement by the company said the total volume of petrol imported into Nigeria was 16.46 billion litres since January 2022 and translated to a supply of 68 million, a BusinessDay report said

Company moves to charge federal government for subsidy

The company stated that it imported about 22.35 billion litres in 2021, reaching 61 million litres per day.

Oil marketers have been forced to review their pricing following the rising price of crude oil.

Due to this, the NNPC has become the supplier of last resort for marketers in Nigeria and has continued to report the monthly petrol cost under-recoveries to the appropriate authorities.

The company stated that the average second-quarter of 2022 international market set the landing cost of petrol at $1,283 per metric tonne and the approved marketing and distribution cost of A146 per litre. Also, these cost elements translate to a retail pump price of N462 per litre and N297 per litre for an average subsidy.

The costs also translate to an annual estimate of N46.5 trillion on the belief of 60 million litres of petrol supply every day. However, the NNPC said this would continue to be adjusted by market demand.

NNPC had said it will start to charge the federal government for subsidy beginning next year.

In seven months, NNPC remits nothing to Federal Government

Recall Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has not remitted into the federation account for seven consecutive months as it battles huge subsidy payments.

The company, which said it is adopting the Saudi Arabia-owned Aramco model, has deducted funds meant for the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) to cover petrol subsidy costs over time, resulting in zero revenue payments to the federal government.

According to the latest report by the company, N448,78 billion was deducted in July to cover subsidy costs

Police Arrest 48 Years Old For Impregnating 12 Years Old Girl Of His Church Member In Ogun State

 Pastor Michael Abiodun of The Light House Gospel Church, Oluwo, Owode Egba, in the Obafemi Owode local government area, has been detained for reportedly having carnal knowledge and impregnating a 12-year-old daughter of a member of his church.

The 48-year-old preacher was arrested after Owode Egba Divisional Headquarters learned that the victim's mother had joined the church as a result of a spiritual issue that had resulted in the deaths of two of her daughters.

She rushed to the church for deliverance in order to prevent the victim from suffering the same tragedy.

When the victim arrived, however, the pastor took her into a room inside the church and forcibly had carnal knowledge of her, resulting in pregnancy.

Following the information, CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola, the DPO for the Owode Egba division, dispatched his detectives to the scene, where the rogue pastor was quickly apprehended.

He admitted to the crime during questioning but put the blame on the devil. He also admitted that he deflowered the victim, a JSS 2 pupil.

The victim's mother told the police that she didn't know that her daughter was pregnant until seven months later.

The girl, who gave birth to a baby three months ago, told the police that she didn't notify her mother about what happened because the pastor had threatened her with dire consequences if she did.

The state police command's spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident, and the state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered the suspect to be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further questioning and possible prosecution.

Gunman Attack Lobour Party Meeting In Enugu , Many Are Ingured

 Gunmen suspected to be political thugs on Sunday, attacked members of the Labour Party during their meetings in Enugu State.

Reports said the attack happened on Sunday during Ward meetings at Aninri and Awgu local government areas of the state.

Sources said the attackers destroyed cars, chairs and canopies, while injuring some people.

The LP governorship candidate, Hon Chijioke Edeoga, confirmed the attack on the party members.

Edeoga said he received a report of gunmen suspected to be political thugs attacking their members during their monthly meetings at Aninri ward and Awgu ward 1.

He said, “Nobody was killed but some people were wounded and cars vandalised.

“I was told that the gunmen chased away our members and shot indiscriminately, causing panic. Chairs and canopies were destroyed, cars of members packed were also vandalised.”

 Some photos of Boko Haram camps being taken over by flood have been shared on social media. The photos were shared on the official Twitter page of Zagazola Makama, a security analyst and Counter Insurgency expert based in Maiduguri, Borno state on Sunday, 4th of September 2022.

In the photos shared by the security analyst, some camps of the terrorist fighters could be seen taken over by flood.

 While giving opinion on the mass surrender of Boko Haram members recently, Zagazola Makama said in the tweet he shared alongside the photos that the mass surrender of Boko Haram Members may be as a result of the flood that has ravaged their camps in the North Eastern regions of the country.

The security expert also said that the issue of the flooding may have exposed the terrorists to hardship living conditions, hunger, and disease. The security expert also pointed that this may soon be an end of the road for the terrorists.

 As the 2023 election gathers steam, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Augustine Paul Ngo, has left the party for the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Ngo, who represented Abua/Odual Federal Constituency, is an ally of Senator Magnus Abe, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Rivers State.

Following his defection to the PDP, Ngo, alongside Henry Ogiri, a former Executive Director, Finance and Administration (EDFA), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), visited Nyesom Wike at the governor’s residence in Rumuepirikom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State on Sunday night.

In a piece of related news, the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State governor, Emeka Woke, has described the allegation by Senator Lee Maeba that his life is under threat, as ‘a spurious tale concocted by a deranged mind’.

Recall that Senator Maeba on Saturday alleged that a meeting was held at the Government House, Port Harcourt to clampdown on him and others.

The Chief of Staff refuted the allegation on Saturday at Opobo town, the headquarters of Opobo/Nkoro LGA during the grand finale of the state-wide Grassroots Development Initiative (GDI) Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) collection sensitisation rally.

Woke stated categorically that there is no such plan to clampdown or eliminate any person in the State, as such character is “not in the DNA” of the present administration.
