After Pope Francis: A Turning Point for the Vatican and a Return to Christian Foundations?
Billions of Catholic faithfuls including world leaders, today, mourn the death of Pope Francis who passed away, aged 88, per a Vatican announcement.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in the Argentine capital city of Buenos Aires, Pope Francis devoted his life to service in the Catholic Church—first as a young Priest in 1969, a member of the Jesuit missionary, a Bishop and Archbishop of Buenos Aires, and a Cardinal—before becoming the first-ever Latin American Pope in 2013.
In the three days before his burial, tens of thousands lined outside St. Peter stretched multiple Vatican streets to pay their last respects, with a few attendees sparking controversy—to the displeasure of Argentines especially–by taking selfies with the Pope’s displayed remains.
But controversy is not new to the soft-spoken late Pope widely known for his friendliness to “the poor”, odd climate change activism and perceived weak stance on homosexuality. He was also the first Pope to take the name “Francis” and will become the first to break tradition with the burial proceedings of Vatican heads after choosing to be buried in the nearby Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica–away from the catacombs of St. Peter Basilica where the remains of past Popes lie.
With the President of the United States, Donald Trump, Argentine President Janvier Milei, French President Macron, UK PM Keir Starmer in attendance, major far-left news networks seized the momentum to snatch respects off the holy see by whipping up an imaginary Trump-Zelenskiy-EU showdown. The BBC, in an awfully blindsided disrespect to the late Pope, spent considerable minutes recanting the February 28th US Oval Office drama which had zero bearing to the late Pope Francis, for whom all who gathered will focus.
Times like these call for a sober reflection on the consequences of man’s actions in the light of God’s will.
As the Vatican and over 3 billion Catholics mourn this significant loss, it is presented a golden opportunity to retrace its steps back to the sacred teachings of Jesus Christ, the guardian of all souls and cornerstone of the Christian faith, who exemplified holiness, righteousness, a vehement condemnation of immorality and a superseding love which never rejoices at wrong.
It would be in its best interest to reflect these changes boldly in future choices, given the controversy that surrounded key decisions over the last twelve years, as it embarks on a journey to ordain the 267th pope.
Pope Francis will be fondly remembered for a lifetime of passionate devotion to the service of God. May the good Lord grant his family, members of the current papacy, the nation of Argentina, and millions of Christian faithfuls the fortitude to bear the loss.
