Ganduje: Unpretentiously Primitive!

Ganduje: Unpretentiously Primitive!

If it’s about looks, then, you wouldn’t rate the Kano State Governor, Abdulhahi Ganduje. His look does not typify his very poor essence. Better described as unassuming, he is unfortunately, the opposite of his personae. Even for the optics, he can’t do better than himself.

Sadly, for a man who had spent roughly some 22 years in public office, both as deputy and substantive head, this Kano State governor has clearly learnt nothing about or admitted that power is indeed transient. He suffers sweeping insecurity as much as he boasts huge complex.

From his narrow and primitive mindset to his evidently vindictive disposition, how a character like Ganduje made it to such sensitive and high public office should elicit some interest in political science scholars. That education doesn’t reflect in his character is not even the problem but the fact that he isn’t pushing for attitudinal changes is confounding.

Thus, for anyone very much familiar with this side of Ganduje, it was a sure bet he’d come after some persons in the state immediately a Kano High Court, last Tuesday, sacked the governor-backed faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and upheld one supported by a former governor of the state, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.

Not long after, the campaign office of Senator Barau Jibril, the lawmaker representing Kano North, who is also an intending governorship hopeful in the state, was attacked and burnt by thugs, allegedly sympathetic to the state. Although the state government had denied this, expectedly, the police too have reportedly arrested some 13 people in connection.

And for anyone, who closely followed the governor’s feud with the recently deposed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, till he was removed from office, some of the current developments in the state are not too far from what he is capable of doing. His disagreement with Sanusi was purely one stoked by his inferiority complex – for Sanusi’s awesome, elegant and dignified carriage.

What’s even the more worrisome is the fact that Kano is volatile and a flashpoint state to watch out for in 2023 as with previous elections. Therefore, for the governor’s hands to be identified in some of these unsavoury happenings means the unfurling violence already has an official stamp, and that, definitely comes with a price for all. No thanks to a mind unable to live above its weakness.

EPL: Rangnick snubs Cristiano Ronaldo, names best player in football history

Rangnick snubs

Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has named two legends as the best footballers in history.

Rangnick was asked to pick who is the better player between Cristiano Ronaldo who he will manage and Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi.

Instead, the 63-year-old opted for former Argentina skipper, Diego Maradone and Johan Cryuff, who established an eye-catching brand of football at Barcelona.

“We have Cristiano [Ronaldo] here, we have Lionel Messi, we have Robert Lewandowski right now, so it’s difficult to just name one of them.

I would say Diego and Johan are definitely two who should be named,” Rangnick said.

The German is poised to take charge of his first United game on Sunday, when they welcome Crystal Palace to Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Rangnick, who got his UK work permit this week, was in the stands as Ronaldo netted twice in a 3-2 win over Arsenal on Wednesday.

UEFA to ban six clubs from Champions League, Europa League

Two Portuguese clubs, FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon, are among eight clubs that have been fined and six threatened with exclusion from European competitions over unpaid debts.

The clubs have been adjudged to have breached UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations, due to their their “non-compliance with the ‘no overdue payables’ requirement”.

UEFA’s newly-established ‘First Chamber of Club Financial Control Body’ handed out all the punishments.

The clubs affected are: Astana (Kazakhstan), CFR Cluj (Romania), CSKA Sofia (Bulgaria), Mons Calpe (Gibraltar), Real Betis (Spain) and Clube Desportivo Santa Clara (Portugal).

As well as the fines, six of the teams will be banned from the next European competition they qualify for, if the debts are not settled by January 31, 2022.

Only Astana and CFR Cluj don’t have that additional sanction hanging over them.

Sporting have already qualified for this season’s Champions League knockout stage, while Porto will progress if they beat Atletico Madrid next week.

Ralf Rangnick              Cristiano Ronaldo

Ralf Rangnick reached an agreement with Manchester United board that Cristiano Ronaldo would be a key member of his squad before he was
offered the job.

Rangnick’s appointment as Man Utd interim boss was confirmed last week and the German got his work permit on Wednesday and will be in charge of the game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The 63-year-old German gaffer has worked with several Bundesliga clubs such as Hannover, Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.

In his first meeting with the English media on Friday, Rangnick spoke about the legendary Portugal captain, saying, “Seeing Cristiano at 36… I’ve never seen a player that is physically fit at that age.”

And popular sports journalist, Fabrizio Romano said the new manager had already agreed with the club’s board to find a way Ronaldo could be active in his team.

“Ralf Rangnick told the Man United board in his first conversation that Cristiano Ronaldo’s gonna be considered ‘key player’ without any doubt – despite fake speculations,” he tweeted.

AN Abia State chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr. Isaac Nkole, has cautioned the party against re-admitting the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Uzor Kalu.

This call came on the heels of a visit by a high-powered PDP delegation led by the incoming National Secretary of the party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, at his Aso-Villa, Abuja home.

Nkole alleged that Kalu, “Is in a desperate move to return to the PDP having discovered that his days in the All Progressives Congress, are numbered.”

The PDP chieftain alleged that the Senate Whip has been reaching out to key party stakeholders at both the state and at the national levels, begging them to allow him return to the party.

He, however, said Sen. Kalu’s return to PDP “is not in the best interest of the party.”

Nkole advised the leadership of PDP both in Abia and at the national level to be careful not to allow the senator to return to the party “because his return will destroy PDP”.

Earlier, a delegation of newly elected members of the National Working Committee of the PDP who paid a courtesy call on Kalu, in his Abuja residence within the  of Aso Rock, urged him to make an informed choice regarding the 2023 general election.

Leader of the delegation and National Secretary-elect of the party, Senator Sam Anyanwu, gave the advice after a closed-door meeting with the APC chieftain, on Thursday.

The delegation also commended Kalu for visiting the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who is in the legal custody of the Department of State Services on Monday.

Anyanwu said, “In taking a decision concerning the 2023 election, we want you to look left, right, back and forward and take a wise decision that would end the sufferings of Nigerians.

came to your house today with the leaders of my party to pay you homage as the leader of the South-East which you rightly deserve. There is no doubt the fact that you are a critical stakeholder and founding member of the PDP.

“Today you are in APC temporarily. We know by tomorrow; we may find ourselves in the same political party. What is important is about Nigerian’s. As a leader in this country, you should try as much as possible, to remove tears in the eyes of Nigerians.

“We need you to cushion the effects of some wrongdoings of the current administration. We have all paid our dues in this country. I believe that with you, the South East should have a pride of place. I commend you for visiting Nnamdi Kanu at the DSS custody. It is a good move. He is our own and we should never deny him. He is not fighting for his selfish interest but for the interest of all south easterners.

“I, therefore, implore all Igbo leaders within and outside the country to come together and let us ask the president to temper justice with mercy and free Nnamdi Kanu. He is not a criminal. He is not a kidnapper. He is not a bandit and he is never a terrorist

“He was only agitating for his people to have an equal share of the national cake. As brothers, we want to work with you.”

Any shop, location hard drug is sold in our region will be forfeited to govt — South-East governors

THE South-East Governors Forum has resolved that government would henceforth take over all shops and locations where hard drugs are sold in any part of the region.

Chairman of the forum and governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, disclosed this in a statement he signed after an emergency virtual meeting of the governors on November 30.

Umahi added that all those promoting trade in illicit drugs, or indulging in consuming them would be prosecuted..

We resolved to be very committed in our fight against hard drugs in our region, especially the new one called Methamphetamine, locally known in the South-East as Mkpurumiri.

“We have decided that all shops and locations where any hard drug is sold will be forfeited to the state government and all those promoting the trade or indulging in hard drugs shall be seriously isolated to face the law.

“Rehabilitation of those misled into hard drugs is also ongoing. We urge community leaders to give secret phone calls through the special numbers offered by our governors on security and hard drug.”

Umahi also condemned in strong terms the video clip and write-up circulating in some social and print media where two policemen were said to have been killed and their heads cut off by youths who styled themselves as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN).

“We have resolved among ourselves to work with security agencies to determine the authenticity of this video/report and if found to be true, the perpetrators would be arrested by all possible means to face the law.”

The governor said: “We are aware of similar videos in the past and which when subjected to forensic review, were found out to have happened outside Nigeria. We assure Nigerians, especially the police community that we will not rest until we have done justice to this matter.”

Elon Musk made more money than Bill Gates’ total net worth in just 11 months

Elon Musk

South African-born billionaire, Elon Musk remains the only person with a net worth greater than $300 billion due to the appreciation of his Tesla stock. As at 2021, his year-to-date gains of $141 billion is greater than Bill Gates’ ($135 billion) net worth.

The current value of Musk’s net worth is $311 billion. This is equivalent to 174 million troy ounces of gold or 4.4 billion barrels of crude oil.

Tesla shares started the week all fired up after CEO, Musk sent a memo to employees encouraging them to minimize costs rather than rushing orders out last minute to meet the company’s quarter-end sales targets. Musk wrote in a memo distributed Friday that he does not want the company to spend a lot on “expedited fees, overtime, and temporary contractors just so cars can arrive by the end of Q4.”

Musk explained that, historically, deliveries have dropped “massively” in the first few weeks of the following quarter when sprinting like crazy at the end of quarters to maximize them.

Over a six-month period, we won’t deliver any more cars, but we will have spent a lot of money and burned out in an attempt to accelerate deliveries,” he said.

Monday afternoon, Musk wrote that the end-of-quarter deliveries will still be very intense but a little less intense than they have been in the past.

What you should know about Elon Musk

Musk was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa, where he attended a short period of university. Having been born into a wealthy family, he showed a knack for technology and entrepreneurship from an early age.

When he was 12 years old, he wrote and sold the code for a video game. However, his dreams were in America.

At 17, he was able to establish himself in Canada since his mother was born there. In 2002, he became a US citizen knowing that it would be easier to enter the United States from Canada.

Having studied at Queens College in Ontario for two years, he moved to the United States and earned degrees in Economics and Physics from the University of Pennsylvania.

He went to Stanford University in 1995 to pursue a Ph.D. in energy physics, but he dropped out after two days.

Musk saw the Internet as a greater opportunity than physics in the heyday of the internet boom. That same year, he founded his first company.

Musk became the world’s richest person when he crossed the $200 billion mark in 2020. He went on to become the first person ever to have a net worth of over $300 billion just a few months later in November 2021. A brief drop below $300 billion was followed by a return to the $300 billion thresholds by the end of last month.

The majority of his wealth comes from Tesla, which accounts for around three quarters of his wealth. His stock options at former and current companies also have increased. In lieu of a salary, Musk receives stock options as against cash.
